How to: Set combo box defaults in reports.
Solution:
In Report Design view, select the 'View' menu and select 'Properties'. Click 'Combo Box'. Set the desired defaults.
NOTE: Using this procedure will only affect new controls on the current report.
1) If the Database window is not active, activate the Database window.
2) Click the 'Reports' tab in the database window.
Reports tab
3) Select the desired report. (The selected report is highlighted.)
4) Click 'Design'. (The selected report appears in the Design view, and the floating Toolbox appears.)
5) Select the 'View' menu and select 'Properties'. (The property sheet appears.)
6) Click 'Combo Box' in the toolbox. (The Default Combo Box dialog box appears.)
7) Click the 'Format' tab from the Default Combo Box dialog box.
8) Type the width of the list box portion of the combo box in the 'List Width' box.
NOTE 1: Use a measurement indicator (cm or in) when not using the default 'Auto'.
NOTE 2: The list box portion of the combo box is the same width as the combo box when using the default setting 'Auto'.
9) Click on the 'Visible' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine whether to have the label visible:
1] Select 'Yes' from the 'Visible' drop-down list to have the label visible on the report.
2] Select 'No' from the 'Visible' drop-down list for the label not to be visible on the report.
10) Type the desired width of the label in the 'Width' box.
11) Type the desired height of the label in the 'Height' box.
12) Click on the 'Back Style' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine the back style of the label:
1] Select 'Transparent' from the 'Back Style' drop-down list for the back style of the label to appear transparent.
2] Select 'Normal' from the 'Back Style' drop-down list for the back style of the label to appear normal.
NOTE: 'Normal' is the desired selection from the 'Back Color' box.
13) Click on the 'Back Color' box. (A Build button appears.)
a) Click 'Build'. (The Color dialog box appears.)
b) Select the desired color.
c) Click 'OK'. (The Default Combo Box dialog box reappears.)
14) Click on the 'Special Effect' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Select the desired effect for the label from the 'Special Effect' drop-down list.
15) Click on the 'Border Style' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Select the desired border style for the label from the 'Border Style' drop-down list.
16) Click on the 'Border Color' box. (A Build button appears.)
a) Click 'Build'. (The Color dialog box appears.)
b) Select the desired color.
c) Click 'OK'. (The Default Combo Box dialog box reappears.)
17) Click on the 'Border Width' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Select the desired width for the label border from the 'Border Width' drop-down list.
18) Click on the 'Fore Color' box. (A Build button appears.)
a) Click 'Build'. (The Color dialog box appears.)
b) Select the desired color.
c) Click 'OK'. (The Default Combo Box dialog box reappears.)
19) Click on the 'Font Name' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down arrow appears.)
b) Select the desired font from the 'Font Name' drop-down list.
20) Click on the 'Font Size' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Select the desired size for the font from the 'Font Size' drop-down list.
21) Click on the 'Font Weight' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Select the desired weight of the font from the 'Font Weight' drop-down list.
22) Click on the 'Font Italic' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine whether the text should be italicized in the label:
1] Select 'Yes' from the 'Font Italic' drop-down list to italicize the text for a label.
2] Select 'No' from the 'Font Italic' drop-down list for the text in a label to remain normal.
23) Click on the 'Font Underline' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine whether to underline text in the label:
1] Select 'Yes' from the 'Font Underline' drop-down list to underline the text for a label.
2] Select 'No' from the 'Font Underline' drop-down list for the text in a label to remain normal.
24) Click on the 'Text Align' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down arrow appears.)
b) Do one of the following to align the text:
1] Select 'General' from the 'Text Align' drop-down list for the text typed to be left aligned and for numbers to be right aligned.
2] Select 'Left' from the 'Text Align' drop-down list for text typed into a label to be aligned to the left in the label.
3] Select 'Center' from the 'Text Align' drop-down list for text typed into a label to be aligned in the center of the label.
4] Select 'Right' from the 'Text Align' drop-down list for text typed into a label to be aligned to the right of the label.
25) Click on the 'Auto Label' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine whether a label automatically appears with a control:
1] Select 'Yes' from the 'Auto Label' drop-down list to automatically have the label inserted on the report.
2] Select 'No' from the 'Auto Label' drop-down list for the label not be to automatically be inserted on the report.
26) Click on the 'Add Colon' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine whether a colon follows the text in a label:
1] Select 'Yes' from the 'Add Colon' drop-down list to have a colon follow the text in labels.
2] Select 'No' from the 'Add Colon' drop-down list to not have a colon follow the text in labels.
27) Type the dimension for the horizontal axis for the label text from the upper-left corner of the label's attached control in the 'Label X' box.
28) Type the dimension for the vertical axis for the label text from the upper-left corner of the label's attached control in the 'Label Y' box.
29) Click the 'Label Align' box. (A down arrow appears.)
a) Click the down arrow. (A drop-down list appears.)
b) Do one of the following to determine the distance between the label and the control's upper-left corner:
1] Select 'General' from the 'Label Align' drop-down list to use a general alignment.
2] Select 'Left' from the 'Label Align' drop-down list to align the distance between the control's upper-left corner and the left edge of the label.
3] Select 'Right' from the 'Label Align' drop-down list to align the distance between the control's upper-left corner and the right edge of the label.
4] Select 'Center' from the 'Label Align' drop-down list to align the distance between the control's upper-left corner and the center of the label.
30) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save' to save changes to the report.
